Q: What do I need to bring?

A: Please bring a completed waiver form that can be found on the Creek to Bay website.  It helps to speed up the check in process if volunteers have their completed waiver in hand when they arrive.  Volunteers may want to bring extra water or snacks, and should wear sturdy closed toed shoes and clothing appropriate for a cleanup.  Hats and sunscreen are also recommended.  To help reduce waste, volunteers are asked to bring reusable supplies, such as a bucket to collect litter, gardening or work gloves, and a reusable bottle.  Backup supplies will be available if you do not have any of these items.

I Love A Clean San Diego invites you to show off your creativity while also helping us reduce waste at this year's Creek to Bay Cleanup!  To enter, decorate a bucket to bring to the cleanup and use instead of a plastic bag, take a photo, and submit to ILACSD at iloveacleansd@gmail.com within one week after the cleanup.  More information available on the contest entry form.

More than 6,000+ volunteers expected for large-scale San Diego County cleanup

SAN DIEGO –  I Love A Clean San Diego’s (ILACSD) signature event, the Creek to Bay Cleanup, will be held Saturday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. As part of the national Great American Cleanup, thousands of volunteers will gather at more than 90 coastal and inland sites around San Diego County to help preserve the local environment by cleaning and beautifying these outdoor areas. Volunteers of all ages are encouraged to sign up online at www.creektobay.org. Registration for the Creek to Bay Cleanup begins April 1.

Annual Fish Fry Fundraiser - May 11th , 11am-3pm @ Emerald Hills Neighborhood Park

Still only $10 per plate, including two pieces of fish, green beans, bun, side dish, drink and dessert.
This fundraiser is for the Emerald Hills Neighborhood Council.

May 11th, 2013 from 11am - 3pm at the Emerald Hills Neighborhood Park at Kelton Road and Bethune Court, San Diego, CA 92114.

Since we no longer receive funds from the Jacobs Center, it is up to the community to support itself.
The Neighborhood Council requests $20 per household per year for membership.

This helps pay for our meeting space at  Johnson School, annual community picnic, annual community holiday dinner, upkeep of the Emerald Hills Pocket Park on Kelton Road, and for expenses related to our ability to keep up with the City Council, SEC, Police Drive Alongs, neighborhood code compliance Drive Alongs, helping senior  neighbors and those in need with minor  outdoor issues, etc.

City Council President Tony Young's representative, Roosevelt Williams III shared with us:

• New Council District maps  are in the works - we remain with District 4.
• Mr. Williams will contact our Officer Jones, who hasn't made the past few meetings.
• The tot lot at the Emerald Hills Park needs modernizing - will work on funding.
• A sign for Coronado Estates will be made using Improvement/ Beautification funding.
• October 5th is Walk and Ride To School Day, with a kickoff at Chollas-Meade.
• Aware of problems at Geneva  - water maintenance
• Graffiti has been removed from storm drain- Geneva/ Elwood
• Sewer repairs on Roswell - concrete blacktop and resurfacing is coming (curb to curb service)

The Emerald Hills Neighborhood Council hosted a Community Clean-up Event with the City on August 6th.  Thanks to all -   27.99 TONS of waste was removed, with over 22 tons of it NON-recyclables.          Way to go, EH!

The guys from our Local FIRE STATION #12 joined us for awhile. Nice to meet you all! Corey Beckwith shared with us:

Did you know it takes an average of 5-10 minutes for a truck to get to you? That every fire truck has a trained paramedic on it? That an ambulance often takes 10-12 minutes to arrive on the scene? The Fire fighters often have 7-15 calls per 24 hour shift?

Dryer Lint and Vents - one of the big problems for fires, especially in apartment complexes.

Please make sure to remove lint EVERY time you use the dryer, and vacuum/ empty out the vent that leads outside. You'll save energy, in addition to making your place safer. It was recommended that your dryer get checked by a professional annually.

Fire Stations are Safe Baby Drop-Off Zones. If you are unable to care for your baby/child, bringing him/her to a fire station or hospital will not be considered abandonment by the Police.

The local brownouts for service in our area ended on July 1st of this year, thank goodness.

Elections for the Emerald Hills Neighborhood Council are coming up. Are you interested?

In Case You Missed the Emerald Hills Neighborhood Council Meeting

The July 2011 EHNC meeting was held in Room 7 (Engineering Lab) while the Johnson Magnet School Science Fair was wrapping up.  Principal Tracey Jenkins-Martin was in attendance for the first time in awhile. Roosevelt Williams III has rejoined us as the representative for City Council President/ District 4 Councilman Tony Young. Welcome back, Roosevelt!

The big discussion of the night was about the July 9th shooting on Roswell at 56th St. in Emerald Hills.
Roosevelt shared details from the police commander's log, and the gang unit. He also told us about a shooting on Alvin St - a house was damaged, but no other 'victims'. More units are in the neighborhood, both before/after school and in the evenings. Please call the Field Officers line: 619-527-3511 when you see suspicious activity or have concerns about your neighbors'  or their visitors. The more calls that we make to the Field Officers, the more patrols we will have in Emerald Hills.

Roosevelt also reminded the crowd about the Smart Money Summit on Sat., July 16th from 9:30am-2pm at the Jacobs Center.

Ron Lacey, of the Mayor Jerry Sanders' Office also offered details about the police presence that will be in the neighborhood. Patrols will be saturating the community "weeding" out weapons and trouble. The Gang Suppression Unit, Gang Unit. Parole dept. and religious groups will also be paying attention to the neighborhood. Curfew checks (after 10 pm for minors)  are on now, with truancy checks during the school year will help us.               Let's keep our kids and teens out of trouble.

EHNC
By-Laws- are currently under review, and should be complete at the August meeting. The EHNC is under the Coalition of Neighborhood Councils' 501c3.
Thanks to President Gayle Reid, we have been able to reduce our monthly fee to the district to $10 per month (was $25), and we don't have to pay the permit fee. We will continue to pay the custodian monthly for help in opening/closing the auditorium and cleanup. Gayle noted that if we missed a payment to the district, we would lose our place and have to pay $25 per month in the future. The Council agreed to pay the remainder of 2011 and 2012 to avoid this possibility.

The Emerald Hills Pocket Park on Kelton Rd is kept up by the generosity of the EHNC and its members, while the Emerald Hills Neighborhood Park across the street is run by the San Diego Park & Rec Department.  OJ has been doing the rough work of pulling big weeds and attempting to recreate the dry creek bed path that runs through the pocket park. A request was approved to purchase blue rocks to outline the dry creek bed. OJ would love to have volunteers join him, Sat. July 16th and starting again in August on Saturdays, starting at 10am. Please wear workboots and gloves, bring a trash bag & wear your sunscreen.

Please help get rid of your recyclables & discards at our Neighborhood Cleanup (Cleanout?) at Johnson Magnet School PLAYGROUND on Aug. 6th, from 8am-1pm.

Principal Tracey Jenkins-Martin told the assembled that the EHNC meetings will now be announced on the marquee of the school, and the Aug. 6th Recycling/Discard Event on campus will be up as well.

and a request was also made about starting a Facebook Page too. Emerald Hills already exists as a Facebook Page, so it would need to be taken over.

It's almost time for our Annual Emerald Hills Community Picnic - Aug. 13th, from 11am-3pm at the Emerald Hills Neighborhood Park on Kelton Rd. Residents are provided the protein and drinks by the EHNC, and are requested to bring side dishes or desserts to serve 10 people.

Emerald Hills pocket Park cleanup

If you have some spare time on Saturdays, from 10a.m. - 12p.m., OJ could use your help at the Emerald Hills pocket park on Kelton Rd, just south of the Route 94/Kelton Road exit.

Please bring your work gloves & boots, a trash bag, and wear your sunscreen.

July 23rd and 30th- you will be on your own.
