The You Speak! Youth Summit is an event designed to give youth the opportunity to voice their concerns about our community through various talents. They have 3-5 mins to do spoken word poetry, rap, sing, dance, or speak thier thoughts on the state of thier community. We want to encourage youth that they have a voice too and that it is them who will conceptualize what we will be as a community of Black and Latino peoples.

The goal of this event is to honor the talents of our youth and give them a chance to be heard. My hope is that from this event, the community leaders will have some idea of what needs to be implemented in the near future for our children and thier children to succeed.

Too many of our brothers, sisters, parents and loved ones are dying due largely to our lifestyles of unhealthy eating and living.

This event is designed to positively affect the health and well-being of our communities by educating and heightening healthy lifestyles for ourselves, our families, friends and neighbors.

Museum Mash Up - FREE ADMISSION! SDHC joins nearly 20 museums and cultural institutions across the county for a family friendly fair at the Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation. 

Live music, dance performances will be on the cultural stage as well as animal and creature appearances from local nature centers plus dozens of hands-on activities from museums across the region make for a family fun day out like no other. Saturday, August 10- Family Art Day will be held at the Jacobs Center, 404 Euclid Ave. from Noon– 4:00 pm. This event is hosted by the Center for Community & Cultural Arts in Conjunction with El Caballo. This year’s exhibit will highlight ‘The Horse in Mexican Folk Art’ along with free entertainment, refreshments, demonstrations and hands-on art projects. 

Annual Fish Fry Fundraiser - May 11th , 11am-3pm @ Emerald Hills Neighborhood Park

Still only $10 per plate, including two pieces of fish, green beans, bun, side dish, drink and dessert.
This fundraiser is for the Emerald Hills Neighborhood Council.

May 11th, 2013 from 11am - 3pm at the Emerald Hills Neighborhood Park at Kelton Road and Bethune Court, San Diego, CA 92114.

Since we no longer receive funds from the Jacobs Center, it is up to the community to support itself.
The Neighborhood Council requests $20 per household per year for membership.

This helps pay for our meeting space at  Johnson School, annual community picnic, annual community holiday dinner, upkeep of the Emerald Hills Pocket Park on Kelton Road, and for expenses related to our ability to keep up with the City Council, SEC, Police Drive Alongs, neighborhood code compliance Drive Alongs, helping senior  neighbors and those in need with minor  outdoor issues, etc.

The event will include dinner and an outdoor movie screening of "What's on Your Plate", a a witty and provocative documentary about kids and food politics.  Over the course of one year, the film follows two eleven-year-old multi-racial city kids as they explore their place in the food chain. Sadie and Safiyah talk to food activists, farmers, and storekeepers, as they pose questions regarding the origin of the food they eat, how it’s cultivated, and how many miles it travels from farm to fork. 6pm – Dinner & Drinks 7:30 – Movie $5 - $10 suggested tax-deductible donation. Your donation will go towards the same fund that willingly paid nearly $25,000 in fees to the City of San Diego to establish the new community garden ordinance. Family Friendly Event!!!
