Neighbors helped find the two shooters who hit a 7-year old girl in the leg & a 21-year old man in the upper arms that occurred on July 9, 2011. The wounded man, Martin Barnett had exchanged words with the 16-yr-old teen shooter and another gang member, Anthony Penn, on Roswell near 56th Street in Emerald Hills.
Penn, who lives in the neighborhood, is set to be arraigned on Wednesday, July 13th at San Diego Superior Court. No details for the 16-yr-old shooter, who also lives in the Emerald Hills area.
Roosevelt Williams III, City Council President Tony Young's representative told the Emerald Hills Neighborhood Council attendees on Tuesday that additional units will be in the area, especially around times when school is starting/ ending, and also in the evening. Please call the police if you notice any suspicious activity in the neighborhood. It's better to be safe than sorry. (He also reminded us to watch our speed & to come to a complete stop at stop signs, since the area will have a higher police presence).ss

The 16-yr-old, identified as Darryl Williams, was on probation at the time of the shooting. Both plead not guilty at the arraignment for attempted murder, assault with a firearm and shooting at an inhabited welling. Deputy District Attorney Fran Jackson told the SD Superior Court Judge, David M. Szumoswki that the shooters were members of a rival gang in San Diego. Bail is set at $500,000 for each defendants.
If convicted, they could serve 20 years to life. Both have juvenile records.
